שלום (Shalom) and ברוכים הבאים (welcome) to Mrs. Kessar’s Hebrew class:
I am glad that you chose to join the Hebrew class here, at North Middle School. Over the next three years, we will be “traveling” together to create a community of learners, create and share many memorable moments. On our journey, you will acclimate to respectful conduct of yourself and your peers, class and school's property. You will adapt and promote sense of responsibility for the members of our community and your own individual work. At the same time, you will continue to progress and improve your Hebrew language skills, knowledge of the country and its people.
The Hebrew course:
The Hebrew language curriculum is aligned with the New York State Board of Education requirements. In class, you will master the Hebrew reading and print writing as well as listening skills and with time conduct simple conversation. In support of writing and verbal skills, you will prepare written projects and oral presentations. In addition to building vocabulary and grammar, a significant portion of the curriculum is dedicated to the Israeli culture, geography, current events, important personalities, history, daily life and customs and ceremonies.
In class:
We will be doing a lot of practice in class, however you are expected to review every night and complete all homework assignments on a daily basis. Study and test taking skills are regularly reviewed and reinforced in class.
Assessments:
You are assessed on the effort and quality of class work, preparation, participation, homework, tests, quizzes, oral communication and projects. Your commitment and attitude reflects in your conduct and quality of work. During class, you have ample opportunities to demonstrate your skills and progress. Full period tests will only be given on "Foreign Language testing day". Quizzes will be given on any day and may or may not be notified in advance.
Assignments:
Homework is given regularly and being checked daily. During class, you are given the opportunity to correct your homework so as to enable you to study for the test from accurate notes.
I look forward to sharing with you my love for the Hebrew language and the beautiful Israeli cultures.
